Countdown...

Ok, I have less than 24 hours before my frantic and furious writing a 50,000 word novel starts.

I've been able to kinda narrow down the plot. But basically it's going to be by ear (fingers?).

Hope that works.

UPDATE: Added a new webcomic to my list - Alien Loves Predator. I howled with emotion.

Doom and Writing

Last week Zelia and I went to see Doom when it opened. We were both a little skeptical about how the movie would be like. Both of us are Doom players from way back and there were certain things that we hoping the movie would have. The big one was the door sound. For any of you who have played Doom, you know exactly what I'm talking about. For those of you who have no idea, I'll try to explain.

I won't try to explain the actual noise. That's too hard, but it was a very distinctive sound. Even now, as I type this, the sound echos through my mind. When playing the first Doom at night with all the lights out and I was deeply immersed in the game, nothing scared me more that wandering a hallway and hearing that sound in the distance. Something was coming to get me...

We also hoped that some of the weapons would be included and a couple of other small details. From the trailers, we saw the Chainsaw and the BFG 9000 so that was a step in the right direction.

After we saw the movie, Zelia and I did actually have a good time. Certainly a "leave-your-brain-at-the-door" movie. It was, in my opinion, a fun movie. No door sounds, but still enjoyable. Friends of mine said it was crap, so if you plan on seeing it, be forwarned.

Well, once again I'll be participating in the National Novel Writing Month contest again. Last year I didn't complete it. This year, who knows? I haven't even thought of a plot yet. I hope inspiration strikes soon. I could use it. I have some half-assed ideas in my head, but they won't form into full ideas. Curse them! Once it kicks off on the first of November, I'll like to my section so you can see how many words I've written and even read some of it. The idea is that by the end of November I'll have written 50,000 words. The emphasis is quantity, not quality. Last year I think I got too caught up with trying to write a "good" novel. This year I have to remember that the important thing is to write. Just get those words down. Somehow. I may be in trouble already.

Zelia had her first Mary Kay class last night. I went along for support and because another guy was there and he said basically that if he had to be there , I had to be there. Plus it was being held at a friend's place, so I figured I'd have a good time. The class went very well. Zelia was very good, answering questions and being very professional. She did an excellent job, in my opinion, but I'm biased a bit. But the women who attended also said she did a great job. So it wasn't just me. Of course, with practice, she'll get even better.

Paintball and Mice

This past weekend was a little bacholar party for a friend of mine. However, he stayed away from the strippers and the falling-down-drunk aspect and went a much more fun way - paintball!

He's a big paintballer, so I guess that had a lot to do with it. About 20 of us showed up for the fun and mayhem. It was great! I did much better than I thought I would, getting quite a few bad men. I, of course, got hit several times too. A good time was had by all!

On a sadder note, I just found out that the Logitech mouse I want won't be available in Canada until November. Curse you, Fate! What did I do to deserve this? Oh, wait. I remember. And I shall not speak of it.

Yet More Google Goodness

Felt like blogging about Google stuff. If you don't like it, tough!

A few months ago I installed Google Talk - Google's chat program. It's not as fancy as MSN Messenger or Yahoo! Messenger and I think that's why I like it. It's simple. Clean. Easy to use. Zelia and I like it. Got my Mom to use it. Just need more people I know to use it and I'll be happy. Yes, I still use other programs, but I do like Google. Apparently, you can use other programs that use the same programming or whatever. So maybe it's not as "new", but I still like it.

As I am blogging here, Google Desktop is indexing my computer. Google Desktop allows you to, well, Google your computer. It does other things as well, such as Gmail notification, Google Talk, weather, etc.....it would be easier for you to just check out Google and see for yourself. I'm hoping this will make things easier. If not, I'll just uninstall it.

Ah, the beauty of computers.
